MHANYS is a great organization that provides meaningful support to those who need assistance in overcoming their behavioral health challenges. MHANYS offers training in becoming a Certified CarePath Coach and a Mental Health Community Partner which offers a wide range of benefits including starting your own CarePath Coaching business to provide mental health support, and becoming a Mental Health Community Partner you can receive free training for select staff.

New York Peer Specialist Certification Board: Certified Peer Specialist
NYPSCB - provides pathway to becoming a Certified Peer Specialist to help people with mental illness overcome the obstacles and challenges they may face in the community. All fees towards provisional or upgrade for full certification is being funded by New York State of Mental Health. You can get the educational requirements free of charge on the Academy of Peers website
ASAPNYS-NYCB (Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of NEW York State & New York Certification Board)
ASAPNYS - Offers 3 certifications CRPA, CARC, VSR, 2 of the certifications providing support for people with substance use disorder, 1 certification is providing support to our veterans with substance use disorder.
CRPA (Certified Recovery Peer Advocate) work in healthcare facilities who provide substance use treatment, who have lived experience overcoming the challenges of substance use disorder. CRPA has 2 stages Provisional & full CRPA, and the good thing about this certifications they are Medicaid billable which means facilities that provide your services can bill Medicaid for your services, and this takes place even at the provisional stage of certification.
CARC (Certified Addiction Recovery Coach) work in healthcare facilities who provide substance use treatment or recovery support. They act as a mentor or guide to help persons in recovery sustain long-term recovery.
VSR (Veterans Supported Recovery) work in healthcare facilities who provide support to our veterans who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder. https://www.asapnys.org/ny-certification-board/
OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Support -NYS) provides credentialing for those wanting to work as a counselor for substance use disorder or prevent persons from developing substance use disorders. The good thing is you can apply for scholarships that pays for the educational requirements, application fee, exam fees, and possible receive a stipend. They have 4 types of credentialing:
CASAC & CASAC-T (Credentialed Alcohol Substance Abuse Counselor)
CPS (Credentialed Prevention Specialist)
CPP (Credentialed Prevention Professional)
NAADAC (National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors)

NAADAC has several national certification that would stand out on any resume and shows credibility and commitment to the profession.
